Student humanitarians honored
Nineteen students in the Clarke County School District this week won inaugural Eve Carson Awards, humanitarian awards given to students who exemplify the spirit of the 2004 Clarke Central High School valedictorian.

Eve Carson, the University of North Carolina student body president, was killed last year in a robbery near her home in Chapel Hill, N.C.
The Carson family and the Foundation for Excellence in Public Education in Clarke County created the award to recognize bright, kind, compassionate students with a passion for community service.
Carson Award winners from elementary schools received a $50 gift card, middle-schoolers got a $100 card, and high-school students received a $250 check.
Honorees, all fifth-, eighth- and 12th-graders, are:
